Money Dodger’s Absolutely shocking experience at Reading Auto Services. I took my car for an MOT, and it genuinely felt like the examiner was desperately trying to find any excuse to fail it. After failing to identify any real issue, I was suddenly told my headlights were “pointing down” and that they could “fix it” for £20 — otherwise the MOT would be failed. What makes this even more suspicious is that the adjustment itself literally took around one minute, yet they still charged £20 for it. Immediately after payment, the exact same car suddenly passed the MOT on the same day with no further issues. This honestly felt more like a money-making tactic than a genuine safety concern. The MOT history itself clearly shows the first test failed only because of “Offside Front Headlamp aim too low,” and after paying for the quick adjustment, the vehicle passed straight away. The only advisory on both tests was completely unrelated to the headlights. To make matters worse, when I questioned this situation, the owner unnecessarily intervened in the conversation and raised his tone aggressively instead of speaking professionally and respectfully. I even had to request multiple times for him to calm down and speak properly. This came across as extremely dishonest, intimidating, and unprofessional. An MOT is supposed to be about safety and fairness — not trying to pressure customers into paying extra money for a one-minute adjustment. I left feeling frustrated, uncomfortable, and completely disappointed with the integrity of this garage. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to be very cautious before bringing their vehicle here for an MOT.
